Right in the heart of the Tyrol–Salzburg–Bavaria tri-border area and within easy reach of Waidring in Tyrol and Reit im Winkl in Bavaria, the Steinplatte Winklmoosalm ski resort offers a winter full of possibilities – for families, leisure skiers and freestylers alike. Wide, perfectly groomed slopes of all difficulty levels, scenic high-altitude locations from the Winklmoosalm right up to the summit, and plenty of off-piste activities will make your winter days here truly special.
For teenagers and the young at heart, the Snowpark Steinplatte awaits, featuring four lines across three sections and varying levels of difficulty (Fun – Easy – Medium – Pro). For children and families, there’s the Triassic Funline with dinosaur figures for learning through play. And even without skis, you can enjoy the Steinplatte in winter – for example, at the Triassic Park, on winter walks to the viewing platform and the Panorama Muschel. Young children are in safe hands at the childcare, the winter playground is accessible to everyone, and our huts are the perfect place for a relaxing break.
Slopes, panoramic views and skiing fun for the whole family
The Winklmoosalm ski area offers you 42 kilometres of slopes with plenty of space for wide turns, practice slopes for beginners and more challenging runs for experienced skiers. Thanks to its location on a sunny high plateau, you’ll often find yourself skiing above the clouds – with sweeping views across the Kitzbühel Alps, the Chiemgau Alps and the Salzburg region. This high-altitude ski resort is clearly laid out, well signposted and family-friendly – ideal if you’re travelling with several generations and everyone wants to ski at their own pace. Modern lifts ensure a comfortable ascent, whilst on the slopes you’ll constantly discover new vantage points over the surrounding mountains.

Steinplatte Snow Park
The Steinplatte Snowpark is your freestyle playground in the ski resort – featuring a variety of lines and features for beginners, intermediate riders and pros. Spanning around 1.5 kilometres, there are over 50 obstacles spread across several sections, tailored to different skill levels.
From simple boxes and wave tracks to more challenging rails, kicks and features, you’ll find everything you need for creative runs here. Thanks to its sunny location and the park’s layout, which offers good visibility, you can easily fit the park into your day’s skiing – whether as a quick break or as a dedicated freestyle day.

Triassic Park in winter
Even in winter, it’s well worth a visit to the Triassic Park – the prehistoric world is revealed here under a blanket of snow. Children can meet dinosaurs against a winter backdrop, romp about in the snow and discover interactive play features, whilst you all experience the unique combination of a winter in the mountains and the prehistoric world together. Depending on snow conditions and what’s on offer, you can combine individual areas of Triassic Park directly with your day’s skiing or a winter walk – perfect if you want to take a break from skiing but still want to stay on the mountain.

Winter discounts
The Tyrolean Family Pass and the Salzburg Family Pass are accepted here in both summer and winter – families can therefore benefit from reduced fares on the mountain railway. Information on family volume discounts and all other concessions can be found under Prices.
You can ski at really low prices on Super Tuesday. On selected Tuesdays in January and March, young people, adults and senior citizens can ski at the Steinplatte Winklmoosalm ski resort at a special rate.

What are the opening hours of the gondola lift and chairlifts in Waidring during the winter?
The following opening hours apply at the Steinplatte in Waidring during winter:
The 2026/27 winter season is expected to run from 5 December 2026 to 29 March 2027, daily without interruption provided there is sufficient snow.
Steinplatte Waidring gondola lifts and Winklmoosalmbahn Reit im Winkl
- From the start of the season until around mid-February: 08:30 to 16:30
- From around mid-February from 8.30 am to approx. 5.00 pm

In which ski resorts is my day pass or the 3-Country Leisure Arena multi-day pass valid?
With a Steinplatte Winklmoosalm day pass, you can ski on both sides of the ski area – your pass is valid in both the Steinplatte (Waidring) and Winklmoosalm areas. Here are the day pass prices at a glance
The 3-Country Leisure Arena multi-day pass is valid in several ski resorts in the region, including:
- Steinplatte Waidring cable car / Winklmoosalm
- Lofer Mountain Railway
- Buchensteinwand Mountain Railway (Pillersee)

- Kirchdorf in Tirol ski lifts

Are ski tours or off-piste tours permitted on the Steinplatte, and what do I need to bear in mind?
Ski touring on or along the slopes poses particular safety risks. The following therefore applies to the Steinplatte:
As a general rule, visitors may only purchase a ticket for the ascent and descent by gondola lift if they are not carrying any winter sports equipment.
If, despite this, you still wish to undertake a ski tour starting from the Steinplatte high-altitude car park, you must do so only when the slopes are open, strictly at the edge of the slopes and at your own risk.
From 4.15 pm, the slopes are closed for safety reasons whilst they are being groomed – from this time onwards, neither ascents nor descents are permitted.
When the slopes are very busy (during holiday periods and at weekends), we generally advise against ski tours for safety reasons.
Please check the avalanche conditions, weather, piste status and local regulations carefully before every tour, and be sure to follow all markings, closures and instructions from the ski lift operators. For independent ski touring off-piste, the following applies: only with appropriate experience and equipment, and at your own risk.
What can I do on the Steinplatte in winter if I’m not skiing?
Even without skis, you can still enjoy the Steinplatte in winter. Groomed winter walking trails on the high plateau invite you to take in the views, the Triassic Park in winter offers a prehistoric atmosphere in the snow and child-friendly experiences, and at the mountain huts you can simply enjoy the mountain sunshine and Tyrolean delicacies.
This means that even those accompanying you who don’t ski can spend a whole day in the mountains whilst still being close to family and friends.
What can I expect at the Steinplatte Snow Park?
The Steinplatte Snow Park is a 1.5 km-long freestyle park with over 50 features, divided into several lines and three sections with varying levels of difficulty (Fun – Easy – Medium – Pro). Whether you’re a freestyle beginner, an intermediate rider or a pro, there’s something for everyone here – with boxes, rails, kicks and creative features.
Thanks to its sunny location and clear layout, the park can be perfectly integrated into your day’s skiing – whether for a few runs in between or a whole day of freestyle.
Are there any special offers for children and families?
Yes, the Winklmoosalm ski area has been certified as a family-friendly ski region. Children can look forward to dedicated practice slopes, family areas, the Triassic Funline with dinosaur-themed features, as well as, depending on what’s on offer, childcare and a winter playground in the Triassic Park area.
Ski schools offer special children’s courses and family packages, and at the mountain huts you’ll find plenty of family-friendly spots to take a break whilst enjoying views of the slopes.

How do I get to the Steinplatte Winklmoosalm ski resort?
The Steinplatte Winklmoosalm skiing and hiking area can be reached from two directions:
- 1. from Waidring / Austria
- 2. from Reit im Winkl / Seegatterl / Germany
From Germany....
...take the A8 motorway towards Salzburg as far as Bernau am Chiemsee. There, take exit 106 Bernau towards Chiemsee / Marquartstein / Grassau and follow the B305 to your destination, the Winklmoosalm cable car in Reit im Winkl / Seegatterl (OPEN IN WINTER ONLY).
Alternatively, take the A8 and A93 motorways to Oberaudorf; from there, follow the B172 (Erpfendorfer Landesstraße) to Erpfendorf, and via the E641/B178 (Loferer Straße) you’ll reach Waidring / Austria.
From Austria...
...take the A1 or A10 from Salzburg to the Salzburg West exit. From there, follow the B178 via Lofer to reach Waidring directly.
Steinplatte Waidring Mountain Road (toll road)
In winter, the Steinplatte Mountain Road and the Steinplatte mountain car park provide access to the Steinplatte Waidring ski area, whilst in summer they offer the ideal starting point for numerous hikes. Various hiking trails start from there, including an approximately one-hour walk to Triassic Park or a more challenging, around five-hour hike to the Fellhorn.

- Use in winter is free of charge with a valid lift pass during the ski resort’s opening hours.
