As early as 1972, cable car pioneer Andrä Brandtner Sr. laid the foundations by building three T-bar lifts and the mountain road from Waidring. To this day, the Steinplatte remains a popular paradise for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, offering sunny, snow-sure conditions and fantastic views in the heart of the Tyrol-Salzburg-Bavaria border region, a legacy now being carried on by the second and third generations.

What does it take to make skiing a joy in the sunshine on 42 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes?

An enthusiastic skier who isn’t put off by major investments. That is exactly what the Steinplatte in Andrä Brandtner found. Together with business partners, the Plattenkogel, Schwarzlofer and Kammerkör 1 ski lifts were built, initially powered by diesel. In 1975, the Plattenkogel 2 double chairlift followed, and four years later the Bärecklift and the Kapellenlift were added. In 1979, his son Andreas joined the company as a managing partner and was involved in all projects from then on.

A milestone was reached in 1985 with Austria’s first detachable four-seater chairlift, and in 1990 with the construction of one of the region’s first snow-making systems. After decades of planning and preparation, the German side was finally better connected in 2009 with the construction of the Winklmoosalmbahn from Seegatterl to the Winklmoosalm.

With Andi Jr. and Florian Brandtner, the third generation is now active in the management team and is constantly working to ensure the continued success of a modern and economically thriving family business.
Every year, further investment is made in customer satisfaction. Ticket machines, electric vehicle charging points and the new Triassic Kinderland on the local mountain are among the latest additions.
